Alder In today’s meditation, we explore the benefits of living from your higher self. Living from your higher self means your sense of identity is rooted in your inner awareness rather than your separate self, or ego, which is oriented toward objects of perception. The higher self is who we are. It is our self-awareness and so it is always with us. The reward of the higher self is a life liberated from the demands, fears, and limitations of the separate self or ego mind. Practicing gratitude and appreciation helps to keep awareness aligned to the higher self because we remain focused on the unifying and uplifting qualities of consciousness, instead of allowing attention to get trapped in differences. SANSKRIT MANTRA: Sanatana Hum (I experience myself as ever present). 1.) Write down how practicing gratitude has lessened or removed feelings of isolation, stress, under-appreciation, or dissatisfaction in your life. For some reason throughout this entire meditation, I seemed to have trouble with all of the above. I didn’t veer into any dark places but there was definitely some internal struggles and outward static that continuously drove me nuts. Practicing gratitude didn’t erase these feelings or energies but helped me to get through. 2.) Write down how you feel ego might still be blocking your full expression of gratitude. It could be through feelings of entitlement, envy, selfishness, self-pity, or resentment. My ego is most likely the source of everything I described in the last question. My chatter is dangerous and distracting. If you can’t even sift through your mind how can you even begin to start the dueling of spirit versus ego. It seems like there’s so much chaos going on in the world and around me. I don’t feel removed from it all by far but I don’t feel chaos in my heart. 3.) Pick one of these ego obstacles to gratitude, and list active steps for overcoming it. Disconnect from my electronics more often. Be more consistent in my meditations and prayers. Focus on myself. Work harder. Stop worrying. 4.) Daily Reflection: I am willing to do what it takes to live the life I want to live. The first step in doing so is to work harder. When I work hard I don’t have time to be distracted. When I work hard I don’t have time to conjure up fears or day dream my life away. When I disconnect from the world, I work harder and I feel more free. When I feel free my creativity flows abundantly and I create beautiful, useful, and inspiring things that reach all ends of the World.
