“The road to health for everyone is through moderation, harmony, and a sound mind in a sound body.” ― Jostein Gaarder

In these first few days together, we have realized we lighten our burdens by coming into balance. But even if we understand that balance is desirable, it will elude us if we approach balance with different parts of our life separately.

Because all the pieces are interconnected, it’s better to “shed the weight” by looking at the whole mind-body system. Our aim is total balance. You can’t achieve this by struggle, effort, discipline, worry, or fighting with yourself. Total balance is achievable by going to a place of total balance – your true self. In meditation, you find your true self, and as you continue the practice, you identify with it more and more.

In time, you discover that you were whole all along.

CENTERING THOUGHT: My true self leads me to an inspired life.

SANSKRIT MANTRA: Om Supra Niti Swaha (I am guided by my self-awareness).

1.) Describe three sources of inspiration in your life that keep you aiming to be a better you.

  • My family.
  • The personal vision I have for my life.
  • The desire to create & help others.

2.) List any parts of your life you are frustrated with. Notice and describe how that frustration and self-judgment fragments your life and keeps you out of balance.

  • The tendency to procrastinate.
  • Poor decision making that leads to fatigue & vice versa.
  • Harboring on decisions that I may have made although I know they are the right ones.
  • Lack of exercising.

3.) Write down why being loving and compassionate with yourself is more helpful than being impatient. Describe how self-kindness and self-acceptance heal, integrate, and rebalance life.

Self compassion is a great way to avoid being caught in a cycle of self defeating behaviors. If you become hard on yourself and point out your perceived short comings on a consistent basis you allow the opportunity for self doubt to manifest. Along with this self doubt comes feelings like not being worthy and when you feel you are not worthy, you can lead yourself to believe that you are not capable. Being patient and kind to ourselves allows us to in turn give those same respects to others. This is how we open up gateways that can pour in resources to aid us in living our best lives and fulfilling our dreams.

4.) Daily Reflection:

Staying balanced is the most essential part of living. Operating from a place of balance allows us the opportunity to make the best decisions. It can enhance our creative abilities and in turn allow us to fulfill our dreams. When we begin to become unbalanced it’s easy to take on poor habits & from my personal experience I can say that when we engage in unhealthy behaviors we have a tendency to fall in a rhythm of neglecting the things that are important to us. By unhealthy behavior I mean excessively doing the things that we deem as fun or taking the things that we normally use as a release and use them as coping mechanisms.
